The Real United States of America

It has become painfully obvious that Americans no longer know who we were and why we are. I frequently hear about preserving "our democracy", social obligations and welfare responsibilities. All of which are not what our Nation was built on nor a direction in which our founders wanted us to head. In fact, they wouldn't recognize the government we have today and they would be ashamed of how we let the government creep into our every day lives making decisions for us.

This nation was built on the right of individual freedom. That no entity has the right to tell you how to best live your life as long as you are not infringing on the rights of others. We have become a nation of laws that have grown to so many and vary in language such to confuse by different interpretations that we have no means of enforcing them.

The United States of American was built as a Christian nation. It only works because of the properties inherent in being a good Christian. Love your neighbor, honor your mother and father, do unto others as you would have done to yourself. These are all good baselines for how to respect one another without the need of a governing body to tell you to do so. Growing up Christian you learn to be honest, sincere and caring. Our parents and our community were our examples.

Alexis De Tocqueville in 1835 said in Democracy in America, "There is no country in the world where the Christian religion retains a greater influence over the souls of men than in America, and there can be no greater proof of its utility and of its conformity to human nature than that its influence is powerfully felt over the most enlightened and free nation of the earth.". The morality of the early American was a result of his/her Christian upbringing. Tocqueville goes on and says, "I sought for the key to the greatness and genius of America in her harbors...; in her fertile fields and boundless forests; in her rich mines and vast world commerce; in her public school system and institutions of learning. I sought for it in her democratic Congress and in her matchless Constitution. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.". When the Christian baseline is lost, our great country is lost with it.

This doesn't mean that you have to be Christian to rebuild America. It only means we have to have a country where the good out number the bad. The moral are far numerous than the amoral. We have to go back to celebrating virtue over vice. The church was where people went to realign their moral compass. Where do the godless go to do this?
